Elevated Fingerboard

On a standard guitar the strings are essentially parallel to the top. By adding an elevated fingerboard, the strings now approach the top at an angle thus increasing the "pull" on the bridge. This translates to more efficient energy transmission to the top and a more powerful sound. An elevation also allows easier access to the higher frets.
